Salvation Army prepares for annual school supply drive

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - As the new school years approaches, The Salvation Army of Greater Baton Rouge is preparing for its annual Back to School Bash to be held on July 30.

At the event, hundreds of kids will receive donated backpacks and school supplies for free. Donations may be made at The Salvation Army at 7361 Airline Hwy. in Baton Rouge or at any of The Salvation Army Family Thrift Stores in Baton Rouge, Gonzales, and Denham Springs.

Captain Brett Meredith of The Salvation Army, says, "We will assist at least 1,000 children in need in East Baton Rouge Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish, Livingston Parish, Ascension Parish, and Point Coupee Parish this year with backpacks and school supplies. We appreciate help that businesses and individuals can give to make a difference because many families have to choose between backpacks and school supplies or rent or utilities, and this is a tangible way that the community can come around a family to help! Help up help other."

In partnership with The Salvation Army, The Louisiana Art and Science Museum will also be collecting school supplies at their Far-Out Friday event on July 1. Anyone who brings a donation will receive free admission to their 7 p.m. show, $1 off their 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. show, and a 20% discount in the museum's store.

"We are grateful for wonderful partners like The Louisiana Art and Science Museum, who are making the effort to help the less fortunate in our community. Thank you," Meredith closes.
