Baton Rouge residents raise more than $53,000 for food banks

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge residents generated more than $53,000 for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank which services 11 parishes across southeast Louisiana.

In association with Walmart’s "Fight Hunger, Spark Change" campaign, participants raised funds by sharing messages on social media, donating to local food banks, and purchasing select products from some of the nation’s largest food companies.

"Donating to local food banks is not top of mind for many during the spring and summer months, and we are thrilled with the campaign results. These funds will go a long way in helping us provide meals for the children and families who count on our support throughout the year," said Michael G. Manning, President and CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

The "Fight Hunger, Spark Change" campaign is part of Walmart’s ongoing commitment to provide four billion meals to those in need by 2020.
