Baton Rouge man arrested in Pass Christian; more than 20 pounds of pot seized

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - On June 23, the Harrison County Sheriff's Department arrested Maurice Lamar Payne of Baton Rouge, 42, on a felony charge of two counts of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

According to Sheriff Troy Peterson, the Interdiction Deputies, assisted by Narcotics Unit Investigators, conducted a traffic stop on I-10 in Pass Christian when they discovered two pounds of marijuana in Payne's vehicle.

After Payne's arrest, deputies executed a search warrant at a storage facility in Gulfport, which belonged to Payne, and discovered another 23 pounds of marijuana and more than $6,000 in cash.

Payne was booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility and is being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.
