BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - To say LSU is unique would be an understatement. Students walk past a live tiger on their way to class. Freshman know all the words to cheers, fight songs, and chants long before they figure out where their 7:30 a.m. class is. Each spring the campus migrates to New Orleans for a "school sanctioned" Mardi Gras festivities. This fall, the Tin Roof Brewing Company is hoping to can the LSU experience with a beer just as unique as Louisiana's flagship university.
Introducing Bayou Bengal, the officially licensed Premium American Lager of Louisiana State University.
Tin Roof was eager to ensure its most recent brew appealed to the LSU community in both name and taste, so they held an open call to all Tiger faithful inviting them to apply to be a part of the blind taste testing panel.
"The response was overwhelming," said River Hughey, Tin Roof's Director of Marketing and Special Events.
The five percent of chosen applicants were invited to the Baton Rouge brewery and sampled eight distinctly different beers.
"We had a fantastic time and those who attended provided outstanding and detailed feedback." Audra Gaiziunas, CEO of Tin Roof Brewing Company.
The Premium American Lager came out as the favorite, and testers said it was a "great, solid beer" and "consistent from first to last sip."
Those who applied to be a part of the testing panel will get their first taste of the brew in a pre-release party at the brewery, before Bayou Bengal is unleashed just in time for football.
