Former Ascension Parish Council Chairman Pat Bell Sr. passes away

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Ascension Parish is mourning the loss of a former council chairman.

Officials announced Pat Bell Sr., a former member of the Ascension Parish Council, passed away at the age of 68.

They said he died Wednesday night due to complications after a surgery.

He was elected to the council in 2008 and served one term. He also served as a sergeant at arms for the Louisiana Senate and was a commissioned deputy with the sheriff's office.

Parish President Kenny Matassa said Bell was a friend to all and a tireless worker who cared about his community.

Bell is survived by his wife and two sons.

Visitation is set for Sunday night at 5 p.m. at Ourso Funeral Home on Airline Hwy. and on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with mass following at 11 a.m. Bell will then be laid to rest at Serenity Oaks Cemetery located across Duplessis Road.
