ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Bond has been set at $125,000 for a former Ascension Parish deputy who is accused of having sex with a teen runaway.
William Lanoux, 31, appeared before Judge Alvin Turner Monday morning for the bond hearing. He is charged with first-degree rape and malfeasance in office.
Officials with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office say they discovered that on Lanoux had met a juvenile, who he'd contacted through a social media site, at an undisclosed location in Prairieville and allegedly had sex with the victim. Lanoux told deputies he was led to believe he was meeting an 18-year-old.
Deputies said the incident happened shortly before Lanoux was going to be off duty.
APSO officials said Lanoux admitted to the incident after an investigation was initiated for a juvenile runaway, who was the victim.
According to APSO spokesperson Allison Hudson, Lanoux is no longer employed by the sheriff's office. He first became a deputy in 2008 and was a plain clothes detective with the criminal investigation division before being fired.
Lanoux is being held in the Ascension Parish Jail.
