Baton Rouge celebrates Juneteenth

Baton Rouge celebrates Juneteenth

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - It was a big celebration for the city of Baton Rouge Saturday as they recognized Juneteenth at Gus Young Park.

Rain pushed most of the festivities inside of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, but families still came out to enjoy food, fellowship, and fun.

Juneteenth dates back to 1865 and is the oldest nationally known event commemorating the end of slavery. While the celebration was held Saturday, Juneteenth is actually Sunday, June 19th.
