SORRENTO, LA (WAFB) - Sorrento Councilman Randy Anny and his attorney, Roy Maughan Jr., have been indicted in district court on theft, forgery and other charges.
State indictments were handed down for Anny and after a three year joint investigation with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Department of Justice, according to Sheriff Jeff Wiley.
Anny and Maughan are accused of misappropriating more than $77,000 belonging to the Town of Sorrento.
According to investigators, a check for $77,500 was made to out to Design and Build Consultants, a company that Maughan represented at the time. The check was signed by Anny while he was serving as Mayor Pro Tem while then Mayor Wilson Longanecker Jr. was on medical leave.
Officials say the money was meant for sewer repairs that were never done.
Anny has been charged with three counts of forgery, felony theft, prohibited splitting of profits, fees or commissions and malfeasance in office. He was released in $30,000 bond.
Maughan was charged with three counts of forgery and felony theft. He has since been released on $20,000 bond.
Anny pleaded not guilty in federal court in September following a federal indictment on two counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy after allegedly filed a claim stating his boat and trailer were damaged by oil in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon incident.
Anny's home was raided by the FBI in February 2015 in which his boat, motor and trailer were seized.
