ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office arrested one of its own deputies accused of having sex with a juvenile while working Tuesday.
William Lanoux, 31, of Prairieville was arrested and charged with first-degree rape and malfeasance in office.
During an investigation, APSO discovered that on Lanoux had met a juvenile, who he'd contacted through a social media site, at an undisclosed location in Prairieville on Monday and allegedly had sex with the victim. Lanoux told deputies that he was led to believe he was meeting an 18-year-old.
Deputies said the incident happened shortly before Lanoux was going to be off duty.
APSO officials said Lanoux admitted to the incident after an investigation was initiated for a juvenile runaway, who was the victim.
According to APSO spokesperson Allison Hudson, Lanoux is no longer employed by the sheriff's office after his arrest. He first became a deputy in 2008 and was a plain clothes detective with the criminal investigation division before being fired.
Lanoux was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
