BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The area of Highland Road between Staring Lane and Renee Drive reopened around 8:30 p.m. after being closed to traffic for five hours, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

The road was closed to traffic after an 18-wheeler overturned on Highland Road at Gardere Lane.

BRPD said that the truck was carrying a herbicide. While it was not leaking, police said Hazmat crews were at the scene as a precaution while the chemical was being unloaded and transferred to another vehicle so the 18-wheeler could be removed.

Motorists were advised to take a different route around the incident while the clean-up was happening.
