BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The brother of a slain school board member in East Feliciana will fill the vacant position.
Officials announced that Edwards Brooks Jr was appointed during a special meeting Monday night to take over for his brother Broderick Brooks, 34, who was killed in Baton Rouge. A special primary election has been set for Nov. 8 and a general election has been set for Dec. 10.
Broderick Brooks was found in his vehicle, which was parked on Wenonah St near Winbourne Ave. He was shot multiple times.
Investigators with the Baton Rouge Police Department arrested 19-year-old Jacquez Griffin and charged him with second-degree murder. They have not released any information relative to the motive.
Along with his work in education, Broderick Brooks served as a pastor and publicist in Clinton.
People who knew Brooks described him as upbeat, hard-working and helpful. He left behind a wife and three children.
