Police arrest suspect wanted in Hammond deadly shooting

HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting a man to death Monday night and then driving off in the victim's car.

The Hammond Police Department reported Tremayne Sandifer, 24, of Hammond, was found in New Orleans. He faces charges in connection with the shooting death of William Davis, 34, also of Hammond. Police have not yet released a picture of Sandifer.

Investigators said the shooting happened on South Scanlan Street in Hammond around 10:30 p.m.

According to reports, witnesses told investigators Davis met with Sandifer for an alleged drug deal and several shots were fired. Detectives said Davis ran to a nearby house and died.

They added Sandifer drove off in Davis' 2014 silver Toyota Camry.

Officials said Sandifer will be booked on charges in Orleans Parish Prison and then taken back to Hammond.

He faces charges of first-degree murder, carjacking and carrying a firearm by a convicted felon.
