ZACHARY, LA (WAFB) - East Baton Rouge Parish leaders are working to shed light on the dark reality of domestic abuse in the Capital area.
Zachary Youth Park will feature a ceremonial butterfly garden planted to raise awareness of the issue. The garden is meant to unite the community of domestic abuse survivors and remember those who weren't so fortunate.
"We want everyone else to know that we're coming to your city. We're coming to your town to have a garden planted there as well. Because our long term goal is to plant one throughout the state of Louisiana because we want to make certain that those victims and survivor names are never forgotten," said Twahna Harris, founder of Butterfly Society.
The Butterfly Society, a non-profit group fighting domestic violence, planted the purple butterfly garden Monday.
