BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a man after they discovered four malnourished pit bulls in his backyard.
Deputies say they received a call from the suspect's sister just after 6 p.m. on May 21 about malnourished dogs in a backyard in the 7200 block of Aspen Place.
According to a probable cause report, when deputies arrived, they found overgrown grass and weeds in the backyard as well as four pit bulls chained up that appeared to be malnourished.
The suspect's sister says that she had been away from the home for two months and says the dogs were not in that condition before she left and was not sure when was the last time they were given food or water.
Deputies described one of the dogs as having several sores and wounds on his body. That dog was seized by animal control.
Deputies later arrested 28-year-old Justin Wimms and booked him into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he has been charged with simple cruelty to animals.
