BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - He had to wait until the last pick more than five hours after the first day of the MLB Draft began, but it was worth the wait when LSU junior outfielder Jake Fraley heard his name called by the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Delaware native was the 77th overall pick, coming in the final selection of the Lottery B round, which followed the second round.
More LSU Tigers are expected to be selected Friday in rounds 3 through 10.
Fraley, who made it clear earlier in the day he intended to make this weekend his last as a Tiger in Alex Box Stadium, ranks second on the team with a .324 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 59 runs scored.
Fraley also leads LSU with 28 stolen bases and has not made an error in the outfield through 187 chances starting all 64 games.
He also was named to the All-Regional team last weekend when the Tigers edged Rice to advance to this weekend's Super Regional against Coastal Carolina.
