OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (WAFB) - All-American Megan Betsa fired a 4-hit shutout with eight strikeouts, and Tera Blanco's bases-loaded two RBI double in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Carley Hoover was all the run support Betsa would need as No.2 seed Michigan downed No.10 LSU at the Women's College World Series Friday night.
LSU starter Allie Walljasper strung together five scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth, loading the bases with nobody out. Hoover faced Blanco, another Wolverines' All-American and was touched for a line drive to right, scoring the only runs of the contest.
LSU (50-17) had scoring chances against Betsa in the fourth and fifth innings, putting two runners on base with two outs, but Constance Quinn and Bianka Bell both struck out to end the threats. The Tigers now face SEC rival Alabama in an elimination game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, while Michigan (52-5) faces No.3 seed Oklahoma, which defeated the Tide 3-0 in eight innings on Shay Knighten's walk-off three-run homer.
