She may only see limited duty for LSU as a pinch-runner, but the family of Brusly true freshman Akiya Thymes is still thrilled to be in Oklahoma City for the Tigers' return trip to the Women's College World Series.
Beth Torina's team will open WCWS play in a rematch with the Michigan team that eliminated LSU from the series a year ago.
Donnie Thymes, Akiya's father, said she's grown up going to LSU softball, basketball and football games and provides a spark for teammates, even when she's in the dugout, not in the game.
WAFB's Jacques Doucet spent some time on opening night talking to Thymes' father and her mother, Keyshalynn, who said her daughter loved watching LSU on TV last year, after falling in love with the Tigers as a 10-year-old.
