ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A man already in jail on drug charges will now face a second-degree murder charge in connection to the death of a Baton Rouge man, according to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.
Andre Wilson, of St. Amant, was arrested by deputies on Tuesday, May 3 after an investigation into a deadly heroin overdose at a home in Gonzales.
According to Lt. Col. Bobby Webre, deputies were called out to the 43400 block of R. Daigle Road in Gonzales about a unresponsive man who later died. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Abraham Said, of Baton Rouge.
During APSO's investigation, deputies discovered that Wilson, 21, took Said to the home around 3 a.m. on May 3. Deputies said the two men were with two other people in the home and at some point, Wilson allegedly injected Said with a syringe of heroin, which Wilson prepared himself.
The other people in the home found Said unconscious later on and called 911, while Wilson left, taking heroin and other drug paraphernalia with him.
Later that day, deputies arrested and booked Wilson into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of obstruction of justice, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
An autopsy and toxicology results later revealed that Said actually died from a lethal dose of heroin, which Wilson allegedly supplied.
Detectives added the second-degree murder charge for Wilson on Friday, May 27. He remains in jail on a $300,000 bond.
