4 semi-finalists set to interview for Ascension Parish superintendent

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Ascension Parish School Board is set to interview the four semi-finalist candidates for superintendent of Ascension Public Schools.

Officials said six semi-finalists were selected from 10 candidates out of the 47 people who applied for the position. Two of those candidates, Alonzo "Lonnie" Ray Luce and Harrison A. Peters, withdrew their names when invited for an interview with the district.

"It is not uncommon for candidates to withdraw during a search process, but we are excited to move forward with four very strong educators," said School Board President Patricia Russo.

The board will conduct the interviews over Skype at the Instructional Technology Training Center (ITTC) at Central Middle School in Gonzales on Wednesday, June 1 and Thursday, June 2. The public is invited to come to the meetings to watch the interviews.

The board will then select the finalists, who will be invited to the parish for an interview the week of June 6 before a new superintendent is named.
