BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Hundreds of local veterans gathered at the Memorial Flame at the USS Kidd to pay their respects Monday.
After a short ceremony and song, veterans and family members were given flowers to tape next to the names of loved ones etched into the memorial wall.
Some of the people in attendance spoke about how important it is to honor their memory with ceremonies like the one held Monday.
"When I was over in Vietnam, I lost several friends of mine over there and yes, I think about those people all the time," says Thomas Griggs, a Vietnam War Veteran. "I've been to Washington to look at the names on the wall and all that stuff. And yes, those people should never be forgotten."
There were many other remembrance ceremonies around the area also.
