YOUR TURN: Amite High Valedictorian

YOUR TURN: Amite High Valedictorian

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - This week's Your Turn segment goes to Bo Bienvenu. Bienvenu has a different take on the story of the Amite High School valedictorian who was barred from his graduation ceremony because he has a goatee.

Bienvenu thinks the news media framed its coverage of the story incorrectly. In his words:

As a 4.0 student, the young man was obviously capable of understanding the rules and the consequences if he chose not to follow them. He had the right to make a choice and he made it knowing the consequences. The coverage casts him as a victim of "the system" when, in reality, that is nonsense and the positive side of the story is ignored. He chose to stand up for what he believed was right and was willing to face the consequences to bring attention to something he thought was wrong. To cast the story in any other light is to do the young man a disservice.

That's Bo Bienvenu's turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, visit us on Facebook or send an email to
