Motorcyclist killed in crash in which impairment is suspected

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police said a motorcyclist was killed in a crash early Friday morning in which impairment is suspected.

The victim was identified as Brion Landry, 57, of Baton Rouge.

Troopers reported the wreck happened on LA 429 (Weber City Road) near Roddy Road in Gonzales around 2 a.m.

Tpr. Bryan Lee said the preliminary investigation showed Landry was driving a 2005 Honda motorcycle with a passenger. He added Landry lost control in a curve, veered off the road and into a ditch.

According to investigators, the crash threw both Landry and the passenger off the motorcycle. They also stated Landry was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner's Office.

Lee said both Landry and his passenger were both wearing DOT approved helmets. He added the passenger suffered minor injuries. The passenger's name was not released.

Authorities said as with all deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a blood sample was taken from Landry and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, but investigators have reported they do suspect impairment was a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.
