ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

A Geismar plant is on alert after a release that caused a shelter in place for residents nearby, according to a spokesperson with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.

According to APSO, the plant had a release around 10 p.m. No word yet on what exactly was released.

A shelter in place was first issued for a one-mile radius around the Rubicon facility on Hwy 75 in Geismar, including areas along Hwy 73 and Ashland Road. However, that issue was lifted around 10:30 p.m. once the release was contained.

APSO said the community near the plant is safe and any road blocks have also been lifted.
