Teacher, Principal of the Year finalists announced

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Who will become the 2017 Teacher and Principal of the year? The Louisiana Department of Education announced the finalists Tuesday and several are from the WAFB viewing area. 

"Congratulations to these outstanding educators. Each reflects the best in our profession through their relentless efforts to improve their instructional practices so students can achieve success," said State Superintendent John White. "Educators like these are the reason more of our children are graduating from high school and going on to college than ever before."

2017 Teacher of the Year finalists (those in bold are within the WAFB viewing area): 

  • Kathleen Abboud - Terrebonne Parish
  • Amber Beach - Bossier Parish
  • Erin Harless - Calcasieu Parish
  • Kristin Hudson - Caddo Parish 
  • Kalandra Loyd - Tensas Parish 
  • Joni Smith - Livingston Parish 
  • Anna Tarver - Franklin Parish 
  • Natishia Thanni-Irvin - East Baton Rouge Parish 
  • Torrence Williams - West Feliciana Parish

The awards ceremony will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Executive Center in Baton Rouge.
