BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Louisiana legislature got a new member at the State Capitol Monday.

Rep. Edmond Jordan, D-Baton Rouge, was sworn in as the new state representative for District 29

Jordan was elected to fill the seat of state Rep. Ronnie Edwards.

Edwards, 63, passed away February 24 after a two-year long battle with pancreatic cancer.

He won a runoff election against Vereta Lee on May 14.

Both Jordan, a Brusly attorney, and Lee, an East Baton Rouge School Board member, ran for the seat last year. Jordan faced off with Edwards in a November runoff election after making it past the October primary.

Edmond has practiced law for 18 years and believes tax reform is the way to fix the state budget.
