Donaldsonville councilman Emile Spano dies

ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The City of Donaldsonville announced the passing of Councilman Emile Spano on its website Monday.

The Donaldsonville native died from a heart attack Sunday at the age of 68.

Spano was serving as the council member for the city's District 5. Before that, he had worked at the Ascension Parish Assessor's Office for 23 years.

Officials said that donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Help Restore the Convent c/o Ascension Catholic School, 311 St. Vincent St. Donaldsonville, LA 70346.

Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, May 25 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be held following at 11 a.m. at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church.

Spano will be laid to rest after the service in the church mausoleum.

The Donaldsonville council meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 will be pushed back to Tuesday, May 31 because of Spano's passing.
