ST. MARTIN PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police say a St. Martinville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
State Police say the crash happened just after midnight on LA 347 near Sonny Drive in St. Martin Parish.
According to State Police, an initial investigation revealed that 66-year-old Clyde Gedward was driving his 2014 Ford Mustang southbound on LA 347 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle ran off of the right side of the road and hit a fence and a telephone pole.
Gedward, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, suffered critical injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
It is currently unknown if impairment played a part in the crash. A routine toxicology test was taken from Gedward and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
