BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two suspects are in custody following a deadly shooting that happened Wednesday, according to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.
An EBRSO spokeswoman said Justin Braud and Taylor Besson, both 20, were arrested in connection with the murder of Jess Trejos, also 20.
Deputies were called to the 9000 block of Kindletree Drive in the Old Jefferson area around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. They said Trejos walked up to a house and said he had been shot in the chest. Trejos was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Deputies were able to find a suspect vehicle that belonged to Besson through witness accounts and surveillance footage. Besson told detectives Saturday that he drove his Dodge truck to the Old Jefferson area around the time of the shooting to meet Trejos for a drug deal.
According to EBRSO, Besson told deputies he was driving with his relative, Braud. Both men reportedly left the scene once Trejos was shot.
A witness who helped Trejos told deputies that the victim said the suspect, whose name was in his phone, fought for his backpack. Phone records showed Trejos and Braud had texted to meet up before the shooting.
Braud was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. He is being held without bond.
Besson faces charges of principal to first-degree murder and principal to armed robbery. His bond was set at $50,000.
The case has been assigned to Judge Louis Daniel.
