BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Law enforcement officers went the extra distance Friday for Special Olympics.
Many of them took turns carrying the "Flame of Hope." They started at the Louisiana State Capitol at 8 a.m. and will make their way through Baton Rouge to eventually end Friday night on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond for the opening of state summer games.
"You can't ask for a better group of kids and people to support in our community and Special Olympic athletes who want nothing more than acceptance and to have a good time," said Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie.
The Special Olympics Louisiana State Summer Games will be held through Sunday in Hammond.
