Suspected drunk driver faces charges after deadly single-vehicle crash

ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said one person is dead, another suffered injuries and the driver, suspected of being intoxicated at the time, is behind bars after a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning.

Louisiana State Police reported Jot Willeford, 27, of Prairieville, was arrested for vehicular homicide and other charges.

Troopers said 49-year-old Dena Edmonston, of French Settlement, died in the crash that happened on LA 429 (Weber City Road) at the intersection of LA 22 in Ascension Parish around 3 a.m.

Tpr. Bryan Lee said Willeford lost control of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving and it flipped. Troopers said the truck ended up in a ditch on the east side of LA 22.

Lee added that none of the people inside had on a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Troopers said Edmonston suffered fatal injuries and a second passenger suffered serious injuries. However, Willeford was not injured in the crash.

According to Lee, Willeford blew three times the legal limit of .08.

Willeford was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, operating a vehicle with an expired driver's license, and no seat belt.

Bond has not been set.
