BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police say they arrested a man they say attempted to swallow marijuana during a traffic stop.
According to police, 21-year-old Tevin Schaffer was driving his 2011 Ford Mustang in the 4400 block of Shelley Street just after 11 p.m. Wednesday when he was pulled over by police.
The officer then asked Shaffer to get step out of the vehicle.
According to the probable cause report, the officer became suspicious when Schaffer stayed in the vehicle a long time before getting out.
When Schaffer finally got out of the vehicle, the officer says that he was overwhelmed by the smell of marijuana. He also says that he observed Schaffer swallow something.
The officer says that when he asked Schaffer to open his mouth, there was green leafy substance on his tongue consistent with marijuana and his mouth also had a strong smell of marijuana.
During a search of Schaffer's vehicle, officers say that they also found marijuana on the floor board of the vehicle.
Schaffer was arrested and taken to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
During the booking process, Shaffer allegedly offered an officer money to not arrest him.
Schaffer was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he has been charged with possession with marijuana, obstruction of justice and public bribery. His bond has been set at $3000.
