GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

A former Ascension Parish sheriff's deputy will have to wait to find out when his trial on child pornography charges will begin.

Todd Tripp was expected back in court Monday for a hearing that would set a trial date. However, his lawyers requested a continuance, moving the court hearing back to June 20.

Tripp, 27, is facing more than 300 counts of possession of child pornography, as well as charges of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He has been arrested four times since 2013 on charges related to juveniles.

He was first arrested on Sept. 10, 2013 on charges of indecent behavior with juveniles and possession of child pornography. Sheriff Jeff Wiley said Tripp is accused of exchanging inappropriate text messages and pictures with a 15-year-old boy from another parish. Tripp had worked for the sheriff's office 18 months at the time of his first arrest and was training to become a patrolman. He was fired upon his arrest.

Tripp was then arrested on Oct. 8, 2013 on more than 300 counts of possession of child pornography. Detectives reported their investigation turned up more evidence from laptops, cell phones and other items taken from a search of his home. Following his second arrest, Tripp's bond was set at $76,000. Officials said he posted bond and was released.

In Nov. 2013, Tripp was arrested on charges of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

On March 26, 2015, he was arrested on charges of pornography involving a juvenile and computer-aided solicitation of a minor. Detectives received information from the Germantown Police Department in Germantown, Tennessee that they were investigating Tripp, who had been in contact with a 13-year-old boy who lives there. Officials said Tripp and the boy were exchanging comments of sexual nature.

On March 16, APSO detectives executed a search warrant at Tripp's residence in St. Amant and seized all of his computers, digital media and cell phones. Detectives reported finding a nude photo of a young girl and that Tripp was communicating with the 13-year-old boy from Tennessee via social media.

The investigation revealed Tripp had been discussing with the 13-year-old boy via social media the possibility of traveling to Tennessee to visit him in an upcoming trip that never occurred.
