ZACHARY, LA (WAFB) -

Sunday, May 15, 2016 marked the start of National Police Week. Communities across the country are doing their part to honor everyone involved in law enforcement including Grace Baptist Church in Zachary.

Grace Baptist Church held a special service and celebration Sunday morning to honor local police and firefighters.

Those in uniform say the recognition is always appreciated.

"A lot of times we do not get recognized. And for people to take their time and their effort to tell us how much they appreciate it," says Zachary Fire Chief Danny Kimble.

"It lets everyone in the community know that the firefighters, law enforcement, EMS personnel, all of our public safety personnel are truly here to serve. And they're truly here to administer to the needs of our communities," added Assistant Fire Chief Dan Wallis.

Members of the church put ribbons on their cars, blue for police and red for firefighters, to celebrate the work of law enforcement.
