YOUR TURN: TOPS Cuts and Healthcare

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The debate in the Louisiana legislature was intense, just as it is on the WAFB Facebook page. Louisiana lawmakers voted in the House to move $72 million from the TOPS scholarship program to fund the state's safety net hospitals for the uninsured.

People are passionate on both sides of the issue, as legislators try to fix the state's financial shortfall. On Facebook, Sherri Hasselbeck comes down on the side of preserving health care. In her words:

I don't think you should take from education unless necessary, but it only makes sense if it is a choice between that and healthcare. Taking from TOPS doesn't stop anyone from getting an education, it just means they have to pay for it, and the government makes that easy with loans. Healthcare can be a matter of life and death.
