Caps and gowns were the attire of choice Friday, as thousands of college students hoped they wouldn't trip while crossing the stage to get their diploma.
Three universities and colleges held graduation ceremonies in Baton Rouge.
One of them took a somber tone when two posthumous degrees were handed out. Lashuntae Benton and Annette January were killed at an off campus party back in April. Southern University still honored the young ladies during the commencement exercise.
Meanwhile, LSU marked a milestone during graduations across campus. Officials said it was the largest class where the most degrees will be handed out to women, African Americans, Hispanics and veterans. This is a huge accomplishment for the university. Graduation ceremonies were planned throughout the day all over the flagship campus.
Also, students at BRCC also donning their caps and gowns as well. The college's ceremony started at 10 a.m. at the Bonne Santé Wellness Center on the Mid City campus.
