Alabama hires LSU's Dunbar

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WAFB) - SEC champion Alabama has hired former LSU star Karl Dunbar to coach its defensive line.

Dunbar, who coached the position on Les Miles' first staff with the Tigers after Miles replaced Nick Saban in 2005, had been coaching in the NFL for a decade with the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills.

After being released by Rex Ryan in Buffalo, Dunbar was selected by Saban to replace Bo Davis, another assistant with LSU ties. Davis played for LSU from 1990 to 1992 and became a strength and conditioning coach.

Dunbar played for LSU from 1986 to 1989 and was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the eighth round of the 1990 NFL Draft. Dunbar played three seasons in the NFL with the Saints and Cardinals.
