A spokesperson for the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said a man wanted for allegedly pistol whipping a person in the head with a gun turned himself in to authorities.

Andre Scott, 45, was wanted for illegal use of a weapon, aggravated second-degree battery, and aggravated assault with a firearm.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, the incident happened Tuesday near the Geismar Grocery store. The victim walked into the store with a cut on his head, asking for someone to call 911.

"A store clerk called 911 and deputies arrived on the scene and learned that [the suspect] hit the male victim over the head with a handgun after the two had an altercation at [the suspect's] residence, which is near the grocery store," said Allison Hudson with APSO.

According to APSO, Scott was identified as the suspect.

"Deputies obtained a search warrant on Scott's residence and located a 9 mm handgun under a mattress and a quantity of prescription drugs," Hudson explained. "Scott was not present at the time of the search."

Scott will be booked into the Ascension Parish Jail and is awaiting bond
