LSU-Notre Dame game postponed; doubleheader set for Wednesday afternoon

South Bend, IN (WAFB) - LSU's first game against Notre Dame was postponed due to rain in the South Bend area. The teams will play a doubleheader of two seven-inning games.

The doubleheader will start at 2 p.m. Wednesday with both games airing on ESPN3.

LSU is taking on head coach Paul Mainieri's former team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Irish have lost four of their last five games and enter the contest against the Tigers with a 26-20 overall record.

The Tigers are 31-16 overall and 14-10 in the SEC.

Notre Dame has a .274 batting average as a team, including 79 doubles and 26 home runs.

Ricky Sanchez: .331 batting average, 12 doubles, four triples and three home runs  
Cavan Biggio: .331 batting average, nine doubles and four home runs, 13-out-of-13 in stolen base attempts 
Zak Kutsulis: .317 batting average, 12 doubles, 11-out-of-14 in stolen base attempts  
Matt Vierling: .273 batting average, five home runs

The pitching staff has an 4.31 ERA on the season.

Michael Hearne: 7-1, 2.00 ERA, 12 appearances, 11 starts and two complete games  
Ryan Smoyer: 3-4, 4.15 ERA, 12 appearances, 11 starts 
Peter Solomon: 3-5, 4.33 ERA, 15 appearances, nine starts   
Sean Guenther: 3-4, 5.04 ERA, 12 appearances, 10 starts

LSU: John Valek III (6-2, 4.36 ERA) 
ND: Connor Hock (0-0, 1.42 ERA)
