GEISMAR, LA (WAFB) -

A portion of LA 73 has reopened in Ascension Parish, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

Louisiana State Police reported earlier that the section of the highway was closed Tuesday afternoon due to an 18-wheeler that overturned and leaked sulfuric acid.

Troopers described the leak as "minor" and said it was contained.

DOTD reported the road closure was between LA 30 and River Road in Geismar. All lanes on LA 73 in that are reopened around 5 p.m. Tuesday

Just before 1 p.m., DOTD added the closure is expected to last about six hours. Drivers were advised to find an alternate route.

There have been no reports of injuries.
