LAKE CHARLES, LA (WAFB) - Prosecutors said it is premature to ask to move the trial for the murder of a Louisiana State Trooper.
The lawyers for Kevin Daigle are asking for the trial to be moved outside of Calcasieu Parish.
Daigle is accused of shooting and killing Trooper Steven Vincent in August 2015. He was charged with first-degree murder, and the state is seeking the death penalty.
In response to a motion by the defense, the state argued that public knowledge of the case alone is not enough to justify that the trial be moved. The state said the defense must show actual prejudice.
On May 25, there will be a mock jury selection, which should help the court decide if Daigle can receive a fair and impartial trial in Calcasieu Parish.
