PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police arrested a suspect in connection to a crash that killed a man, who was hit while crossing a highway in Iberville Parish.

Troopers said 51-year-old John Williams, of Plaquemine, died after being hit in a crash that happened on LA 1 south of LA 75 around 8 p.m. Sunday.

According to LSP, troopers were able to determine that 31-year-old Joseph Tatney, of Plaquemine, was driving southbound on LA 1 in a 2001 Dodge Ram at the same time as Williams was crossing the highway.

Troopers said Williams was struck twice, first by Tatney’s vehicle and then by a second vehicle driven by 41-year-old Ashley Mosby, of Plaquemine. Mosby's vehicle was driving behind Tatney’s truck.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberville Parish Coroner's Officer after being fatally injured in the crash. Both drivers, Tatney and Mosby, were both properly restrained and were not injured in the crash.

LSP suspected impairment to be a factor in the crash, and troopers were able to determine that Tatney was impaired at the time of crash. According to LSP, Toxicology samples were taken from everyone involved for analysis at the State Police Crime Lab.

Tatney was arrested and booked into the Iberville Parish Jail for vehicular homicide. His bond was set at $50,000.
