LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The Livingston Parish School Board discussed the next steps to search for a new superintendent at Thursday night's board meeting.
Current superintendent John Watson announced that he was retiring on Monday. His retirement is effective on July 1.
Watson's term was set to end on December 31. Watson said he decided to retire before his contract ended to allow the system to find a new superintendent during the summer.
"You could tell the mood of the board at the end that we reluctantly accepted this, but Mr. Watson had made the decision that it was time for him to retire from the system," said Malcolm Sibley, president of the Livingston Parish School Board.
Board members said they have set up an application process and time table for selecting potential candidates for the job.
They plan to conduct interviews and hopefully name a new superintendent for the parish by the board's second meeting on June 16.
