Louisiana man convicted of drug offense has sentence commuted by Obama

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

President Barack Obama has commuted the sentence of a Louisiana man convicted of a non-violent drug offense.

Maurice Matthews was convicted on April 29, 2009 for distribution of 50 grams or more of cocaine base and sentenced to 240 months in prison with 10 years of supervised release.

On Thursday, his sentence was commuted and his sentence is set to expire on September 2, 2016.

Upon Matthews’ release, he will still have 10 years of supervised release with all of the conditions.
