BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Another former member of the East Baton Rouge Metro Council is officially throwing his name in the hat to become Baton Rouge's next mayor.
Byron Sharper announced his candidacy downtown Tuesday.
"Been a former city council member for eight years," Sharper said. "We have the experience to serve and I think the next mayor is going to have to be someone that will unite the community."
He added he plans to focus a lot of his attention on north Baton Rouge, just like the other candidates.
Former Councilwoman Sharon Weston Broome and current Councilman John Delgado previously announced they are running for the office.
The election isn't until November 8, so there's plenty of time for others to join the race.
