BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - After hosting the Miss USA pageant for the past two years, Baton Rouge missed out on hosting it this year.
Officials with the competition have announced the 2016 pageant will be held in Las Vegas.
Baton Rouge was the host city for the pageant in 2014 and 2015.
The 2015 was fraught with controversy, however, when the events co-owner Donald Trump was criticized for questionable comments made during his presidential bid announcement.
The comments spurred sponsors of the pageant to pull out, costing the event its spot on national and international television. As a result, Baton Rouge denied a $75,000 payment to the pageant citing the loss of television exposure.
Although the event did air on the Reelz Network, it was not aired by NBC, losing a massive audience.
Mayor Kip Holden said in August 2015 that it was possible the city would put in a bid to host the event for the third year, but that did not happen.
