ST. HELENA PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man in St. Helena Parish.
State Police say the crash happened just after midnight Friday on LA 38 north of LA 10.
According to state police, an initial investigation revealed that 19-year-old Hunter McGregor of Franklinton was driving his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound on LA 38 when he entered a curve and traveled off of the right side of the roadway. McGregor then overcorrected to the left causing his vehicle to spin through the eastbound lane and into a ditch. The vehicle then overturned and hit a tree.
Despite the fact that McGregor was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, he received severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Helena Parish Coroner's Office.
Investigators say they do not believe that impairment played a part in the crash but blood samples were taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
