DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - After more than 2 months, the Denham Springs Police Department has a temporary police chief.
Officials confirm that Capt. Shannon Womack has been named interim chief to replace former chief Scott Jones.
Jones was notified on his termination from the department on April 7. He is appealing the decision.
Jones and another officer were placed on administrative leave by Mayor Gerard Landry after questions were raised regarding the response of a police investigation involving active Denham Springs Councilman Christopher Davis.
Davis, 40, was arrested and booked on February 11 after he was accused of domestic abuse that happened on January 15. He was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail. He posted a $1,500 bond and was released.
However, Davis was not arrested the night of the incident. Rather, he was issued a citation, which led some to question whether this was a violation of protocol.
The report said Jones failed to follow a direct order from the mayor telling him to do everything strictly by the book.
Davis and his wife have both said the incident was an accident.
There has been no word on whether Capt. Steve Kistler, the other officer fired in the incident, plans to appeal.
