BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - At 10 years old, Paisley Miller has a passion for helping those less fortunate.
It might be a tight squeeze in the soup kitchen at St. Agnes Catholic Church, but that doesn't stop the smallest volunteer from serving others in the community. Paisley said her goal is "to help people eat outside so that they can have food to eat since they don't have a home and no money."
Some weekend mornings, instead of sleeping late or playing with friends, Paisley is chopping, slicing, and cleaning. Paisley does it all in the soup kitchen. Her mom Alana tags along with her daughter.
"Just me and her come out here and spend weekends together. You know get to know other people and it definitely teaches us how to work together and work within the community as well," Alana said.
Paisley does more volunteer work than just at St. Agnes. She loves horses and is an avid rider. Paisley volunteers for an organization that helps disabled children ride. She knits hats for the homeless in the winter and cancer patients in the summer. She also helps her school and church with Christmas giving projects.
Paisley credits her faith for her efforts in the community.
"It shows God's love to others in need," Paisley said.
Paisley's mom has always seen something special in her daughter.
"She always kind of considers other people first before herself which is definitely for a ten year old, most ten year olds are not like that at all," Alana said. "She's authentic. She does what she likes to do and she does a lot of service for other people. So I thought that was pretty cool."
It says a lot for a 10-year-old to take time away from friends and other activities on a weekend and serve, but that's just how amazing Paisley Miller is and why she is being recognized as an Amazing Kid.
