WASHINGTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) - An accused thief was arrested after he was caught with stolen guns he was selling through social media, officials say.
According to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, the weapons as well as jewelry were reported stolen from a home in Mississippi. They were recovered at a motel in Bogalusa.
"Once again we are dealing with criminals who travel between Louisiana and Mississippi and once again we have them in jail where they belong," said Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal. "Apparently, the criminal element does not understand that we work closely with all surrounding parishes and counties and pool our resources to solve crimes."
The investigation was launched after WPSO deputies were tipped off that the weapons were being sold from the motel. Deputies said that is where they found Cody Young, 24, of Columbia, Miss.
"Our investigators are to be commended for making this arrest and preventing these weapons from falling into the wrong hands," said Sheriff Seal. "I am so grateful to them and all of our officers for their hard work on behalf of the citizens of Washington Parish."
Young was arrested and charged with possession of stolen firearms, possession of stolen property and possession of Schedule I drugs.
Young was booked into the Washington Parish Jail. His bond was set at $22,500.
