BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Deputies are investigating a decomposed body that was discovered Sunday evening in Zachary.
"[He] was a nice guy, he never bothered anybody," said Herbert Collier, a longtime neighbor and friend. "He would always come down and talk and whatever, he liked to fish. He had just brought some fish to me last week."
According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, the body was found at a home located on Deer Creek Road at roughly 8:45 p.m. Officials say they were called to the home for a welfare check, that's when they found the body of 62-year-old Stephen Kennedy.
"I noticed over the weekend that the vehicles had not been moved," Collier said. "He liked to leave every morning and go out and get him some coffee and stuff. I never thought, you know, this would've happened."
The East Baton Parish Coroner has scheduled an autopsy, which will be completed Tuesday.
